When working on the development of their products, companies are guided by user satisfaction. Sometimes, however, even the best ideas of designers fail to convince customers, and their suggestions for improving the operation of the product are either never passed on to the company or are lost in conversations with support representatives.

The voice of customers when reviewing product development ideas should be crucial. After all, their satisfaction will determine the success of the changes made.

How can the customer decide on new features?

If we have contact information and marketing consents, we can, of course, make one-on-one appointments or send a mailing to customers with a survey. What about when we have a lot of customers, and on top of that, they frequently visit our site? An online survey will be much faster. A survey on the website can reach current customers, but also potential customers. They may not have become them yet because they lacked the feature we intend to introduce to our product. 

Researching product development ideas – template:

Product development idea surveys will vary due to the nature of the business. A sample survey template might include the following questions:

  • We are thinking about introducing new features. Which one would be most useful to you? 
  • In what situations would you be able to use this feature?
  • Would you be able to pay extra for this feature?
  • Can you briefly tell us why none of these functions would be useful to you?

Note: We ask the last question only if the respondent in the first question answers that none of the proposed functions would be useful to him/her.
